Year 6

Welcome to Year 6!

We hope your child enjoys the wonderful world of Year 6 smiley

Meet the team

If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to speak to a member of the Year 6 team.

You can contact class teachers directly through ClassDojo. Alternatively, you can phone the school office or leave a message with Mrs Dunstan, Mrs Layton or Mrs Nevell, who will be out by the school gates each morning.

We would like to thank you for your continued support.

Our curriculum web contains all of the subjects that we will be covering this half term. There is also a vocabulary page, which has topic-specific words that will be used during these lessons.

Home Learning

Please read with your child as often as possible.

There can be few things as powerful as regularly reading to a young child. It has astonishing benefits for children: comfort and reassurance, confidence and security, relaxation, happiness and fun. Giving a child time and full attention when reading them a story tells them they matter. It builds self-esteem, vocabulary, feeds imagination and even improves their sleeping patterns. (Literacy Trust)

Evidence suggests that children who read for enjoyment every day not only perform better in reading tests than those who don’t, but also develop a broader vocabulary, increased general knowledge and a better understanding of other cultures. In fact, reading for pleasure is more likely to determine whether a child does well at school than their social or economic background. (Pearson

The children all have accounts on TTRockStars, where they can practise their times tables.

If your child is isolating and is well enough to complete school work, they can continue to access the work that we are completing in class through Showbie.
