Art and Design

At St Mary’s Primary School, we are ARTISTS! We want our children to love art, craft, and design. We want them to have no limits to what their ambitions are and be inspired to grow up wanting to be illustrators, graphic designers, fashion designers, curators, architects, or printmakers. Our art curriculum is designed to engage, inspire, and challenge pupils while equipping them with the knowledge and skills to be able to experiment, invent, and create their own works of art. As pupils progress, we hope that they gain a deeper understanding of how art reflects our history and how it contributes to the culture, creativity, and wealth of our world. Alongside this, we want our children to use our local area as inspiration whilst also learning from other cultures and respecting diversity.

“Every child is an artist.”

Pablo Picasso (Artist)

“Art enables up to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time”

Thomas Merton ( Trappist monk and writer)

During pupil interviews we asked the children to talk about art at St Mary's.

These are some of their responses.
