In Year 6, the children receive Revision and Workbooks for Reading, Maths and SPaG (Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar). They will complete the Revision books in class on a Friday afternoon and should complete the corresponding pages of the Workbooks at home. All books need to be brought into school every Friday so that we can check that the homework has been completed, and they can use their Revision books. Please see the timetables below for the weekly homework pages.
Children should record their reading in their Reading Records and bring these into school each day.
Please read with your child as often as possible.
There can be few things as powerful as regularly reading to a young child. It has astonishing benefits for children: comfort and reassurance, confidence and security, relaxation, happiness and fun. Giving a child time and full attention when reading them a story tells them they matter. It builds self-esteem, vocabulary, feeds imagination and even improves their sleeping patterns. (Literacy Trust)
Evidence suggests that children who read for enjoyment every day not only perform better in reading tests than those who don’t, but also develop a broader vocabulary, increased general knowledge and a better understanding of other cultures. In fact, reading for pleasure is more likely to determine whether a child does well at school than their social or economic background. (Pearson)
The children all have accounts on TTRockStars, where they can practise their times tables.
