Year 5 pupils attended a Strike and Field Festival at Haygrove School, where they linked up with children from St Joseph's and Westover Green. They took part in various activities (football rounders, quick cricket, normal rounders and multi mini sports); each activity was led by some sports leaders from Haygrove.
To launch Y5's ‘Space Presenters’ topic, the children spent the morning inside a starlab. They were able to see the Earth rotating, and the different constellations. In addition to this, they took part in a ‘Solar System Scavenger Hunt’; clues were hidden around the classroom and hall. The children are now really looking forward to finding out more about the Earth, Space and the Solar System.
Year 5 went on a trip to Glastonbury Abbey to consolidate their learning of the Anglo-Saxons. During the day they had a tour of the Abbey, had a go at calligraphy and writing with a quill, met a Saxon and dressed up in Saxon costumes, created badges and visited the Abbey kitchens. The children had a great day and were extremely well behaved; this was commented on by the Abbey staff.
