Meet the Year 1 Team

Physical Education (PE)
At St Mary's, we choose to follow the Get Set 4 PE scheme of learning to ensure your child receives a rich, broad, and balanced PE curriculum.
Your child will have a PE lesson on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
Please ensure your child comes to school wearing their PE kit on their PE days.
They will need to wear:
- plain black shorts, leggings, joggers or skorts
- yellow t-shirt with St Mary's logo
- yellow sweatshirt/cardigan with St Mary's logo
- trainers

School Uniform
Children should wear school uniform on non-PE days, unless otherwise informed.
- Dark grey/black trousers (full length), shorts, skirt or pinafore (all at least mid-thigh length)
- White polo shirt (with or without school logo) or plain white shirt/blouse
- Yellow sweatshirt or cardigan with school logo
- White/grey socks or grey/black tights
- Yellow gingham dress may be worn during hot weather
- Plain black school shoes or plain black trainers
Additional information:
- Hair that is shoulder length or longer should be tied back and long fringes should be pinned away from the face, regardless of gender
- Hair that is graded should not be less than a grade 2
- Children should not have dyed, gelled or extremely cut or styled hair
- Hair accessories should be plain-coloured (yellow, green, brown or black) and they should not wear JoJo Bows, cats' ears, unicorn horns etc.
- Nail varnish or false nails are not permitted
- Make-up is not permitted
Essential Letters and Sounds (ELS) and Oxford Owls
This year, your child will receive high-quality phonics teaching following a government validated scheme of learning - Essential Letters and Sounds (ELS). Through our rigorous teaching of phonics, we will help your child to progress their skills to become confident readers and writers.
Your child will be given a reading book that corresponds to their phonetic stage of development. This book will be changed every Monday. Please read and reread this book throughout the week. Your child will also have a book of their choice. This is to encourage the enjoyment of reading. Your child can change these at any time.
Our Christian Values
Each half term, we will be focusing on a specific Christian Value and thinking about how we can adopt them into our own lives and communities.
Our Christian Value during:
- Autumn 1 will be thankfulness
- Autumn 2 will be trust
- Spring 1 will be perseverance
- Spring 2 will be justice
- Summer 1 will be service
- Summer 2 will be truthfulness
